“Cleopatra Boy” World Premiere in Detroit, MI

Cleopatra Boy brings to light how women (and other non-straight/white/male) leaders’ histories are re-written, maligned, or erased. The iconic Egyptian pharaoh’s historic, mythic, and fictional representations across time inspired our ensemble to create a performance that speaks to the present moment. A theatrical thought experiment that is part pageant, part courtroom drama; our audience will shape-shift from spectators, to community members, to witnesses as we collectively address the injustice of losing control of our own narratives in order to rethink and remake history.

“Re-Release Party (The Golden Record)” at Ant Hall

Re-Release Party is rooted in a project in 1977 led by Carl Sagan and a dynamic team of scientists and artists who created the Golden Record, a phonograph record which attempts to communicate the story of life on earth for extraterrestrials and future humans.

In an evening that travels through time and space, A Host of People evokes the original team’s story, while creating a new one--asking the audience to imagine what it is to communicate our vast, yet puny, existence to aliens and to ourselves.

As with all A Host of People shows, a party will unfold, celebrating both life here and the possible lives out there in this vast and awesome universe.

Join us for this one weekend only special event, back by popular demand! Stay after the show and join us in the bar adjacent to venue for amazing live music and great drinks!

A Host of People (AHOP) is a Detroit-based ensemble theatre company creating original work that celebrates complexity, imagination, and the synthesis of seemingly disparate elements—at once epic and intimate, political and personal, poetic and approachable. The ensemble creates aesthetically rigorous, intellectually challenging theatre that is also warm, welcoming, and inspiring to people from all walks of life. AHOP chooses their subject matter and themes very carefully with an eye to stories, topics, and aesthetic approaches that will be equally thrilling to the most adventurous theatre fans, as well as those with less exposure to the form. The company invites audiences into their art as they would guests into their home, whether it is in their house, on the street, in a garden, or in a theatre. www.ahostofpeople.org
